North West Vietnam Motorbike Tours loop – 9 Days

A 9 days and 8 nights Vietnam Motorbike Tour will bring you to the highest mountainous region includes longest Pha Din pass and highest O Quy Ho pass. Your challenge is about 1.169 km to the War Zone, from Son La prison to the Battle Field, from Valley of Rice Paddy Mai Chau to the Paradise of cloud Sapa. Stay in both Hotels and Homestay. Many ethnic local people are still in traditional dresses or ladies with black teeth. After 1000km, Clients will have chance to relax or swim in the big man-made lake and have a rice wine party with the hosts right in their stilt house.

 

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau (185 km)

All riders will meet up at 9 am in the workshop to get the bikes. The guides would tell you the ground rules and how to ride safely in Vietnam. It takes you about 20 minutes getting out of Hanoi. Avoiding busy and crazy traffic, your guide leads you to the other way near Red River. This is quite empty and scenic road for your first day in Asian country.
After 185km means 6 hours riding you will arrive in Mai Chau – a peaceful Valley of White Thai ethnic group. We will stay in one of very hospitable family on their stilt house, the family that living here for generations. Walking around villages or joining the kitchen to learn cooking is a good advice for you. Dinner will be ready after your shower, our host will come and cheer with us by their special perfume sticky rice wine.
Mai Chau is also famous for Xòe dancing, young boys and girls in traditional colourful dresses dancing to music. We will have chance to join this music party after Dinner if we are lucky.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Phu Yen

Waking up after a night in a place far away from home is wonderful. Every day of you Motorbike Tour in Vietnam is a great day. Let’s start a new day with one cup of Vietnamese Coffee and then walk around villages and to the field enjoy the atmosphere of Mai Chau. Our guides will take care all your bikes for sure that they are good, safe for riding and no any problem.
Nice Breakfast with local fruit is ready when you come back, preparing full energy for today. If you are person who seeking Off Road, this North West Vietnam region is a paradise one. Today, we bring you to follow the forgotten roads that use to using under the French Colonial. Hidden in the mountains, ancient highway 6 still there is waiting for you. Of course, we have another choice for easy raider that stay on silk new highway 6 to make friend with local people or shooting photos.
After few km on green tea farms, we take ferry boat to go other side of Hoa Binh lake, then stay in Phu Yen which is a small mountain town

Day 3: Phu Yen - Son La ( 120km )

We start earlier in the morning for Son La after our stomaches and bike tanks filled up. It is only 120km on road but take us 6 -7 hours Off road. Motorbike Tour In Vietnam is not only the destinations but also the Journeys. There are many activities we can do on the road such as Riding, Swimming, Photographing, Visiting… If riders are love destination can arrive Son La about 3 pm then go visiting French Prison, another can choose Off-road option and do crazy things. Or you can spend more time riding on Moc Chau Green Tea Farm as the local travelers do.

Day 4: Son La – Dien Bien Phu ( 150km )

North West Motorbike tour in Vietnam is a Journey of Nature, Culture, People, and History. Heading to Dien Bien Phu like Viet Cong did, we ride up the hills, top of mountain and down to the Valleys, left behind the fields, rivers, turns… we arrived the famous old Battle Base under the French Colonial.
You will understand more about Vietnam’s histories when visiting some historical monuments, Museum, Bases in Dien Bien.

Day 5: Dien Bien Phu – Sin Ho ( 110 km)

We keep visiting some more historical Sites and villages on the way riding out from Dien Bien Phu when you are interested. Rock and Roll again heading to Sìn Ho, a small town we can stop over before Sapa. All the ways getting Sin Ho and Sapa have amazing landscape, clients will have many options for On Road and Off Road. We encourage you to take Off Road one, it is not extreme Off Road, just enough for your demand of discovery most North West’s corners. Green Tea Fields are founded a lot on the Hill and riding through them could be fun.
Such a small town compared to original Sapa, Sin Ho covered by clouds all season of the year. Some interesting things to do in Sin Ho are local market on Sunday, discover a limestone cave nearby or have bath with local herbs liquid.

Day 6 : Sin Ho – Sapa ( 120 km)

Our journey is riding to the top of high mountain range day by day. O Quy Ho – The longest and highest Pass of Vietnam is waiting for us ahead. The Pass is about 50 km long and 2000 m high has lots of sharp and blind turns. The scenery is so amazing when we stop over on the top of this Pass named
“Heaven Gate” for photos. Depending on the season, we can enjoy stunning view with sea of cloud or waiting for Sun Set with some cans of beer.
Other side the “Heaven Gate” is dreaming Sapa in the cloud. Was found 1903 by French, Sapa became tourist site in the years later. We get room at the hotels, refresh, and check around the town after dinner.
Day 7: Sapa – Bac Ha ( 80 km)
We have a free morning to discover villages in Muong Hoa Valley. Trekking, hiking or motorbiking is recommended, then we come back Sapa town for early lunch.
Leaving for Bac Ha we have to go down mountain, the weather become hot and hotter. It takes us 3 hours On Road, 5 hours Off-Road then the hot meal and cold beer is ready at the homestay of H’Mong People.
There are many local markets around here. Can Cau Market on Saturday, Coc Ly Market on Tuesday, Lung Phinh Market on Thursday and the biggest one is Bac Ha Market on Sunday. Local people, young boy and girls will be in most beautiful dresses go to markets and good for photo shooting if you are interested in.

Day 7: Sapa – Bac Ha ( 80 km)

We have a free morning to discover villages in Muong Hoa Valley. Trekking, hiking or motorbiking is recommended, then we come back Sapa town for early lunch.
Leaving for Bac Ha we have to go down mountain, the weather become hot and hotter. It takes us 3 hours On Road, 5 hours Off-Road then the hot meal and cold beer is ready at the homestay of H’Mong People.
There are many local markets around here. Can Cau Market on Saturday, Coc Ly Market on Tuesday, Lung Phinh Market on Thursday and the biggest one is Bac Ha Market on Sunday. Local people, young boy and girls will be in most beautiful dresses go to markets and good for photo shooting if you are interested in.

Day 8: Bac Ha – Vu Linh (170 km)

Ethnic people go to Market from early morning. On market days, they are in most beautiful suite and dress looks like a colorful painting . We will wake up early and join the party with Flower H’Mong group.
We get the bikes and ride to Vu Linh at 10 am. Two options On or Off road depends on the time we have left. In order to arrive Vu Linh around 3 pm then we take a boat trip and go swimming after such a long day.
Today we stay at homestay of White Dao people. The family will prepare dinner and rooms for us when we come back from the lake. Having shower then dinner will be ready. The host will welcome us with their local food which they grow or feed by themselves, join the party and cheers with us and we will remember this land for sure.

Day 9: Vu Linh - Hanoi (180 km)

Sleeping in homestay is not easy job if your riders made snoring. Moreover, the noise of insects all night and or from animals will wake you up in very early morning. Bring along ear plugs and eyes blinder is a good solution.
Anyway, you should wake up early and have a walk around this village and enjoy the atmosphere of the nature. Have breakfast with homemade banana pan cake and honey, or Vietnamese noodle.
Leave Vu Linh around 9 am, do more Off road today if you are still interested. Ride through villages and rice paddies. Try to get back Hanoi around 3 pm after 6 hours riding before rush hours.
